How to boost your vocabulary:

Always have your pocket dictionary ready.

Write down the new word, the pronunciation, explanation, maybe its translation and maybe even a synonym.

And when you have a free moment or two - open it, cover the new words, read the explanation or translation and try to guess the word. Or the other way round: read the words, cover the explanations and try to guess them. Maybe you can do this while you're waiting for the bus... :)
